The Frozen Academy, in co-operation with Czech artist Vojty Horalká will be exploring the phenomenon of Tramping - a popular form of Czech camping in the forest from the 1900s onwards. Horalká has made work about this curious phenomenon, where bands of comrades would dress up in outdoor clothes, take along a guitar, go tenting and sing nostalgic songs, the whole, infused with a kind of melancholy bonhommie. The action, which will include performance, photography and video will take place in the Forêt de Grésigne, Tarn France, and the Galerie La Vieille Poste, 81140 Larroque from 11 - 27 July 2010. There will be a 'networked meal' using Skype and other communication media so that our 'remote operators, who will also be participating in the project in their own locations, can join us for a sing-along and barbeque on the 18th July between 18.00 and 20.00 French time, and an exhibition of the works produced in France and sent in from our remote operators from around the world, opening on Saturday 24th July 2010 in the Galerie La Vieille Poste, Larroque, 18.00-20.00, then daily from 10.00-17.00, Mon-Sat.
Remote operators can participate by sending us a jpeg on the theme of 'surviving in the wildernes' (literal or metaphorical) for the exhibition, by Skying in to join us for the networked meal on Sunday 18th July 2010 (Skype details on the FaceBook event page or e-mail us), and /or by sending us some wisdom/advice on how to survive in the wilderness (literal/metaphorical) which will later form a 'guide-book for survival'.
